Los Pollitos

Today was a birthday, of sorts, at our house. Although technically, I think it was Wednesday. In any case, we added a few new family members today!

Welcome to our "red light district" ...

This is the Barred Plymouth Rock - she'll eventually be sort of black/white stripey. We can already tell she's a plucky one, and very curious.

Here is one of the Buff Orpingtons (on the left) and the Ameraucana (on the right), to whom I'm already pretty attached. She seems to be a little unsure of herself in her new surroundings - I can relate. If she turns out to be a he, oh, I'll be sad.

The two "Buffys" and the Barred Rock, having a snack and getting to know each other better. I haven't really attached much or anthropomorphized the "Buffys" - aside from calling them that - I think because it's hard to tell them apart right now, and if all four chicks are female, we'll most likely be saying good-bye to one of these two.

Robert made a cool little plastic window in the nesting box so that the kids could see inside. It lets in some natural light for the chickies, too, and gives them a little bit of a view besides the walls of a cardboard box.

Here is their eventual home, in process, yesterday. It looks a lot taller than it really is.

I have to admit, I wasn't too sure about this new adventure when Robert first came up with the idea. But now that they're here, it's going to be hard to part with one of them (we're only keeping three).

Any ideas for names?

Hooray for newborn chicks! Hope the kids are having fun watching them grow...they're not nearly as much fun for them full grown (oh, except for the eggs). Love to all, Mom

How exciting!!!! That's all kids ever want growing up, to play with a fuzzy little chick! What are their names?
