A Grand Day Out

Earlier this week Charlotte said she was sad because she didn't know very much about dinosaurs. We've checked out books and magazines and movies on the subject, so I thought it might be fun to go look at the real thing. We had a great time yesterday at the Burke Museum and then running around UW campus for a while. Here are some photos of a few of our adventures (no dino pics, though, photography isn't allowed inside the museum):

After we oohed and aahed at the giant triceratops head, etc. etc., we picked tiny flowers. Handfuls of them, and then threw them up in the air. Didn't get a photo of that, sorry, I was too busy frolicking.

We played with public art ...

... climbed up and sat under huge gorgeous cherry trees (where we also played tag and dodged the students lounging in the grass and professors hurrying along the pathways).

We did some lounging of our own.

Hung out on lamp posts ...

... and were amazed by cool old architecture. I wanted to show the kids the UW library's children's literature section, which used to be in a whole big room by itself but isn't anymore, which made me a little sad. But we did go find a Winnie the Pooh book and read it by some big windows overlooking some ginormous rhododendrons. And we saw a familiar face, too! We ran into Robert's sister's husband's sister, which isn't as confusing as it sounds, she's the kids' Uncle Alex's sister. What a crazy small world!

All in all, it was a really great day. The kids were even well-behaved enough that I dared a trip to U-Village and even walked around Anthropologie a bit with them, where true to their promise they didn't touch anything!

what a fun adventure...I am sure the kids loved it, that campus is so beautiful, we will have to take our kids some time!
